Program Overview

CHAMPS is an interdisciplinary partnership of the University of South Carolina School of Law, the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Prisma Health, and South Carolina Legal Services. Established by a Memorandum of Understanding in 2017, CHAMPS’ goals are to:

Provide interdisciplinary education to train the next generation of lawyers, doctors, MSWs, and related health professionals to work across disciplines to address the social determinants of health.
Provide public health legal services to address the social determinants of health for low-income children served by Prisma Health in the midlands region of South Carolina.
Evaluate the work of the program for effectiveness and improvement.
Provide community education, including to government agencies and policy makers, related to addressing the social determinants of health for the population CHAMPS serves.
